Health services research sits at the intersection of providers, hospitals, payors, policymakers, patients, and communities. Researchers in this field examine access to health care, financing mechanisms, and health outcomes to produce new knowledge about the structure, processes, and effects of health services for individuals and populations.
Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) supports health services research in a variety of ways.
Consulting and Support
CHA offers consulting services to children’s hospitals for small scale research projects using PHIS data. Our biostatisticians create datasets and perform statistical analyses based on the hospital’s study parameters and goals. Our research and analytics teams also provide data to support children’s hospitals seeking grants or writing proposals.
CHA Research Network
The CHA Research Network leverages the strength of our data and analytics to perform pediatric health services research and policy-relevant research. The network is made up of 13 groups focused on a different clinical or operational area.
Research Days
During Research Days, children’s hospitals learn to use PHIS data to conduct research. CHA biostatisticians travel to the hospital and lead division staff through a research analytics project.
Health Services Research Academy
Designed for fellows and junior faculty focusing on research, the Health Services Research Academy offers 21 online, on-demand training modules that teach the fundamentals of health services research. The academy also offers coaching and mentoring with statistical support.
