Antimicrobial resistance threatens the health of millions each year, including children. To address the public health concern, antimicrobial stewardship programs at children’s hospitals measure and improve how antimicrobial agents are prescribed by clinicians and used by patients.
Peer benchmarking helps define standards for antimicrobial use and identify improvement opportunities at pediatric hospitals. However, variation in hospitals’ prescribing practices make it difficult to identify accurate benchmarks.
Leverage comparable data
The Antimicrobial Stewardship Dashboard available in the Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS®) helps quality leaders and clinicians at pediatric hospitals optimize antimicrobial use. Using an approach developed by the PHIS Antimicrobial Stewardship Research Group, the dashboard adjusts antimicrobial use for pediatric diagnoses and procedures so adjusted antimicrobial utilization measurements reflect practice variations.
Available as a Tableau visualization, the dashboard will allow you to:
- Benchmark unadjusted and adjusted antimicrobial utilization against comparable children’s hospitals.
- Investigate and custom select a peer group of hospitals.
- Track changes in unadjusted and adjusted antimicrobial utilization over time.
- Identify substantial practice variations compared to peer hospitals.
